Obi Cubana begs FG, state govts to make life easier for the Nigerian youths
The Chairman of Cubana Groups 'Obinna Iyiegbu', popularly known as Obi Cubana, has urged the federal and state governments to create more enabling environment for businesses to thrive for the youths.
In a passionate conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the side-lines of a logistics conference, business magnate and philanthropist Iyiegbu has urged better infrastructure and tightened security as a necessary condition for entrepreneurship in Nigeria. The event which was organized by Gavice Logistics on a recent Saturday in Victoria Island, Lagos was centered around unleashing innovation potentials.
Iyiegbu also underscored the need for an environment that is conducive to doing business especially among young Nigerians. In his words “They need simple things like roads; without good road networks it will be difficult for them to operate especially those in logistics sector who transport goods from one point to another.” He did not stop at calling for road construction alone but asked government to address other challenges affecting businesses such as insecurity and multiple taxes which hinder ease of doing business locally.“ They are not asking governments to buy cars for them, but to set the stage for that and remove all these things blocking the road,” he said. Multiple taxes navigated by businesses are not only burdensome, but demoralizing too because they add to the complexities young entrepreneurs face.
To further discuss safety matters, Iyiegbu emphasized on safe transit of both goods and individuals across the country. The fear of being robbed or kidnapped is a strong obstacle against movement as well as business operations; thereby affecting the general economic climate and people’s willingness to trade or transport goods.
There was also reflection about youth involvement in shaping their future among other issues such as infrastructure and security. Being Chairman at Cubana Group, he urged young businessmen towards embracing innovation while being flexible with different stages in business life cycle saying “businesses have got seasons so it’s left for operators of businesses to know how should they approach every season” thus revealing insights on persistence in entrepreneurship.
Obinna Iyiegbu’s interview was an example of his many-sided views about creating a milieu that supports entrepreneurship in Nigeria. He emphasized the need for government support through infrastructure and security, suggested lighter taxes, and asked young people to never give up being innovative while pursuing their entrepreneurial goals.
This exchange with Iyiegbu reveals what really makes a conducive business environment tick, and mirrors the larger dreams of Nigerian businesspeople who want to turn difficulties into stepping stones. His thoughts propose a path where both public action and private endeavor work hand-in-hand towards economic prosperity and development in Nigeria. By the end it became clear that making Nigeria more entrepreneur-friendly will require joint efforts by all stakeholders ranging from those in power within governments all the way down to youth visionaries who are eager for change.
