PUNCH Online reports that the current governor of  Kogi State, Usman Ododo, intervened to prevent the arrest of the former governor of the state by EFCC operatives. The Commissioner for information in Kogi state, Kingsley Fanwo said governor Usman Ododo did not shield former governor Yahaya bello from the arrest of the economic crimes commission(EFCC).

Fanwo stated this in an interview with Channels Television on Friday. He said Bello was not attempting to avoid arrest, saying a state high court injunction protects the former governor from harassment by the anti-graft agency.

The commissioner dismissed the commission‘s allegations as he questioned the agency’s certainty about Bello’s whereabouts. He said Governor Ododo remained a law-abiding leader who respects the rule of law and the Constitution of the country.

Bello and three other suspects, Ali bello, Dauda Suliman, and Abdulsalam Hudu, will be put on trail before Justice Emeka Nwite. they face 19 counts related to money laundering of over N80 billion
